NEW YORK

With the festive holiday season around the corner, gift-giving and spreading holiday joy are top of mind for many. However, preparations needed to do so can often be time consuming. According to a recent survey commissioned by American Express, over 3 in 5 (61%) are likely to spend more time holiday shopping than working the week before the December holidays this year.

From long lines and crowds to figuring out the perfect gift within your budget, holiday shopping can often be a stressful experience. Over two-thirds of Americans (70%) admitted that they needed to de-stress from their holiday shopping. For Americans who have had to de-stress after holiday shopping, 62% did so by buying a gift for themselves.

While, 86% of Americans with rewards credit cards say they are more likely to earn points than they are to redeem them this holiday season, using credit card rewards points could be the key to unlocking a more time-efficient holiday shopping experience. The Membership Rewards® program from American Express provides eligible Card Members with a wide range of options to make holiday shopping even more simple and seamless with redemption options available across products, experiences, travel, gift cards, donations and more.

SHOPPING
Holiday shopping lists can be a daunting task to take on. Nearly 2 in 5 (37%) of Americans plan to buy more than 10 gifts for their family and friends this holiday season, with an average planning to buy a total of 18 gifts. Not only that, 74% plan to spend the same or more this year on gifts than last year.

Consider the ways that the Membership Rewards program can help you tackle your shopping list and save on time this season. The Membership Rewards program offers a seamless digital shopping and redemption experience so eligible Card Members can quickly and easily redeem points for a wide range of products across technology, fashion and beauty, home goods, and more through the Membership Rewards shopping website, or use Pay with Points at checkout at some of their favorite online retailers, like Amazon or Boxed.

GIFTCARDS
For last minute gift givers or those friends and family who are just impossible to shop for, consider giving a gift card. More than half of Americans (51%) report getting gift cards during the holiday season both to help them buy gifts or give as a gift itself. However, of that group, only over a third (36%) have used credit card(s) rewards points to do so. The Membership Rewards program offers eligible Card Members the option to redeem points for gift cards from a variety of merchants, such as Williams Sonoma, Target, and even American Express® Gift Cards.

GIVING BACK
Many people are also looking to spread holiday cheer by giving back to nonprofits during the holidays. This year, 73% of Americans said they are likely to donate to a charity this holiday season, up from last year (60%). However, half of Americans (50%) are not aware that they can use credit card rewards points to do so, with 3 in 10 completely unaware.

The Membership Rewards program enables eligible Card Members to use points toward donations to over 1.5 million nonprofit organizations across the U.S. through JustGiving. From charities that support cancer research, to those that help provide shelter for the homeless, Card Members can choose to donate to the organizations they are most passionate about.
