May offered American Express Card Members a whirlwind tour of some of the best in food, music, art, and entertainment. There were behind-the-velvet-rope moments at Los Angeles entertainment premieres and a surprise concert by Ed Sheeran and more music at Budweiser Stage in Canada. A month-long celebration of American Express delicious. Month Out kicked off in Australia and an immersive culinary experience delighted the senses in Mexico.

New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago & Boston: Ed Sheeran & American Express’ Subtract Experience Pop-up

The ultimate fan experience: Ed Sheeran (literally!) popped up to surprise fans at American Express’ Subtract Experience Pop-up in New York City. Sheeran had all of Soho turning heads as he jumped on top of his car to give an energetic performance in celebration of his album’s new release, Subtract. As part of the pop-up experience, which ran throughout one weekend in New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, and Boston, Card Members could purchase exclusive album merch and interact with fun photo opp. moments.

Australia: American Express delicious. Month Out

American Express delicious. Month Out celebrated the rich culinary scene of local cities including Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Card Members unlocked special dining offers and access to incredible, mouthwatering events and experiences from more than 30,000 participating businesses.

Mexico: THE BOX by American Express

American Express invited Platinum Card® and Centurion® Members in Mexico to enjoy a live cooking experience with exclusively designed menus by top chefs Javier Plasencia and Alfredo Villanueva, inspired by the flavors of "La Baja." Located within Mexico City’s Antiguo Hotel Reforma, guests were seated at a bar where they could watch each chef expertly prepare and present innovative creations – each paired with an extraordinary selection of Mexico’s finest wines by Lulú Martínez. This was the first edition of The Box in 2023, and the experience will continue with different chefs and sommeliers in August and September.

Canada: Budweiser Stage Concert Season 

American Express is back for another epic concert season at Budweiser Stage this summer, giving Card Members enhanced access to some of Toronto’s hottest concerts from May through September. To kick off the season, Janet Jackson brought her Together Again tour to audiences and Card Members who also had the opportunity to visit the American Express Lounge to enjoy refreshments, DJ stylings, and prime waterfront views.

Miami: American Express Presents CARBONE BEACH

Throughout four star-studded nights, Card Members experienced the food – and spirit – of CARBONE for an unforgettable evening of beachside dining at American Express Presents CARBONE BEACH in Miami Beach, Florida. Guests spent the evening enjoying live performances by top musical artists including Diana Ross, Gipsy Kings, and Ms. Lauryn Hill to complement four courses of some of CARBONE'S most talked-about dishes (hint: spicy rigatoni was involved), prepared by Mario Carbone himself. New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, DC: Amex® Gold Card Presents: A Taste of Milk Bar, Powered by Resy

Amex teamed up with Milk Bar to deliver an exclusive Resy experience for Gold Card Members. Card Members were welcomed into the award-winning bakery’s flagship locations across New York City, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC, for the opportunity to learn how to make the iconic Milk Bar Cake and Truffles. Card Members were also treated to a virtual class lead by Christina Tosi, Milk Bar's Founder and CEO.

New York City: Frieze New York

Card Members received access to an invite-only private tour of the international art fair’s emerging modern and contemporary work, led by Frieze expert guides. In addition to this first look of the fair, Card Members joined an exclusive dinner hosted by New York-based contemporary artist Francesca DiMattio. As part of the experience, DiMattio also welcomed everyone to check out her studio and sent guests home with limited edition pieces of artwork.

Los Angeles: SPIDER-MAN™: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE World Premiere Experience

Spider-Man  fans who embraced their spidey-sense to jump into the action of the official World Premiere of Sony Pictures Animation’s SPIDER-MAN™: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, joined Amex for an exclusive experience in Los Angeles. Select Platinum Card® and Centurion® Members not only shared the red carpet with the cast but were offered a private tour inside Sony Pictures Animation Studios and participated in a meet-and-greet with the movie’s filmmakers. Additionally, Card Members nationwide have (access to a special advanced screening of the film before officially playing in theaters beginning June 2nd.

New York City: The New York Times Games Editors Share Insider Puzzling Skills

With popular staples like The Crossword, Spelling Bee, and Wordle, The New York Times offers some of today's most engaging games. To hear from The Times Games editors themselves, American Express hosted Card Members for an exclusive panel discussion at The Times Center (also live-streamed virtually) where they gained insider knowledge for improved puzzling strategy and participated in a live puzzle solve.

Los Angeles: ‘The Great’ Season 3 Screening Experience

Ahead of the much-anticipated release of Season 3 of ‘The Great,’ a Hulu Original series, Platinum Card® Members received complimentary access to the official viewing party at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. As part of the event, Card Members watched an advanced screening of the season’s first episode, followed by an exclusive Q&Amex with leading actress Elle Fanning. Additionally, Card Members were able to step into a private exhibit to view the show’s costumes.

New York City: The Power of Pi Project

In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM), American Express teamed up with “Life of Pi” on Broadway to support the production’s launch of The Power of Pi Project, a campaign aimed at creating shared spaces for the Asian Pacific American community through storytelling. Amex presented the campaign’s first Tiger Talk event at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York where ticket holders and Card Members attending the show received access to a community reception and talkback among the show’s Asian Pacific American artists. This was part of the Tiger Talks series that will continue to take place in June, July, and August for those attending Life of Pi on the third Thursday of the month. Napa Valley: BottleRock Napa Valley Festival

Card Members at the annual BottleRock Napa Valley Festival experienced some of the best of live music, food, and wine. With an epic lineup of popular headliners, Card Members who were able to book presale tickets through Amex immersed themselves in three days of epic performances set against the landscape of California’s wine country. As part of the experience, Marriott Bonvoy® American Express Card Members enjoyed the festival from an elevated VIP viewing area with access to exclusive merchandise, refreshing cocktails and bites, and local-owned ‘Rock & Refresh’ stations including a ‘sparkle bar’ for glam, airbrush tattoos and a place to create a custom ‘mantra-stamped’ bracelet.

Los Angeles and New York: Intimate Dining Events at Gwen with Michelin-starred Chef Curtis Stone and at Misi with Co-founders Missy Robbins and Sean Feeney

American Express and Resy hosted two intimate dining events throughout May, connecting Business and Corporate Platinum Card Members with renowned chefs and restaurant owners. Card Members joined Curtis Stone, a Michelin-starred chef, restaurateur, author, and entrepreneur at his restaurant, Gwen, in Los Angeles; and Missy Robbins and Sean Feeney, co-founders of Grovehouse hospitality at their restaurant, Misi, in New York City. Each event included a Q&A on community, partnership, and growth strategy as a business owner.
