In honor of Earth Day, throughout the month of April our Green2Gether program provided opportunities for hands-on volunteer experiences that served to inspire, engage, and protect local environments in our communities.

“Through Green2Gether, American Express colleagues around the world came together to take meaningful action to champion American Express’ sustainability efforts and support their local communities,” said Alice Lin Fabiano, Vice President, Community Impact. “During the month, colleague volunteers organized a variety of sustainability initiatives to protect our planet and support our communities.”

Below is a sampling of recent Green2Gether activities from around the world:

Japan Beach Cleanup

Our colleagues in Japan organized a beach cleanup event in Tokyo at Katase Higashi Hama beach in Fujisawa city, bringing together volunteers from different teams. This event helped to make the area safer for both people and marine life.

Serve2Gether Mexico: Environmental Detectives

More than 130 Mexico-based colleagues acted as environmental detectives to protect their local environment from invasive species. Colleagues used an app to map the diverse types of flora, fauna, and pests, and then identify their locations, so that federal agencies can implement environmental protection measures. The activity took place in Cuemanco, Xochimilco, south of Mexico City.

Trees for Cities

Team Amex UK dug deep to plant semi-mature native or climate-resilient trees in Victoria Park, London’s oldest public park. The event was part of our commitment to Trees for Cities to support London’s Environment Strategy to increase green cover by 10% by 2050.

American Express Farmers’ Market

Colleagues in New York City, our corporate headquarters, have several events on the calendar for Earth Month to inspire and engage our teams around sustainability. One event included a Farmers’ Market where colleagues had the opportunity to stock up on fresh produce from some of the dining services’ local farm partners.

The above events – and many more throughout the year globally –bring to life the way our colleagues embody our Blue Box values, supporting communities and working together so they can thrive.
