The BritishAmerican Business Awards, which celebrate companies and their leaders for their achievements and contributions to their communities, honored American Express Chairman and CEO Stephen J. Squeri with its 2023 U.S. Transatlantic Business Award for the work the company is doing across the U.S. and the United Kingdom.

American Express, founded in the U.S. in 1872, has powerfully backed our customers, colleagues, and communities in the U.K. for more than 140 years.

I’m very proud of the success and vibrancy of our business in the U.K., which is underpinned by the strength and backing of our globally respected brand,” said Hannah Lewis, U.K. Country Manager. “It's an honour for us to be recognized as having an impact in the places where we work and live, a core pillar of our Blue Box values.

We employ nearly 6,000 colleagues across the U.K. The first exclusive Amex office opened in 1896 in London. Today we have offices in London, Brighton, and Manchester.

The U.K. is also a key market for Shop Small, Amex’s year-round program supporting Small Business Owners. The 11th annual Small Business Saturday, generating millions of pounds in revenue for the local economy, will be celebrated during this year’s winter holiday season.

We don’t just work in the U.K.; we proudly support our communities as well. From planting trees in Victoria Park, London’s oldest public park, to being on the football pitch with Brighton & Hove Albion F.C., a Premier League football club whose home ground is affectionately known as “The Amex.”
