American Express is amplifying the voices of our LGBTQ+ community through the theme ‘Live Beyond Labels: Proudly Backing All of You.’ The Pride campaign will be spotlighted and celebrated throughout June.
Advancing an inclusive workplace that champions LGBTQ+ colleagues and their career development is part of the company’s culture and values. Through meaningful initiatives, including Pride events, the PRIDE+ colleague network, and gender-neutral benefits programs, colleagues are supported and encouraged to bring their whole selves to work.
American Express invited colleagues who are part of the LGBTQ+ community to participate in the newest “American Express Voices” series to share their stories that spark conversation around what it means to live beyond labels and deepen understanding of each individual’s journey.
“Instead of thinking of it as `coming out,’ it’s ‘letting people in,’ and I think that all of us have experienced this at American Express in that it’s ok to let your colleagues in,” said Chelsea Dexter, a colleague since 2017. “For me, living beyond labels really means embracing your true authentic self.”
“To live beyond labels doesn’t mean to disregard them. It means that the ones we do use for ourselves and the way we identify should really be celebrated, whether that’s through the lens of being at American Express, society, or the world. I think that makes everyone more diverse and then we can just be better allies for each other,” said Travis Yule, a colleague since 2019.
