Colleague Survey Shows 90% Satisfaction with Amex Flex, Our New Way of Working at American Express

Amex Flex, American Express’ new way of working, is garnering high satisfaction rates among our colleagues that responded to recent surveys conducted by American Express in both the U.S. and U.K.  With Amex Flex, colleagues can work at home, in the office, or take a hybrid approach that combines both.

Months into the launch of our new work model, 90% of colleagues who participated in the survey say they are either very satisfied or satisfied with Amex Flex, and 87% say they feel supported in their career development.

“We are encouraged to see that Amex Flex is having such a positive impact on our colleagues’ lives, both personally and professionally,” says Monique Herena, Chief Colleague Experience Officer. “Across the survey results, it was clear that colleagues value our flexible culture and the support and tools available to help them grow their careers no matter where they’re working from.”

We surveyed colleagues in the U.S. and U.K., which were among the first regions to adopt Amex Flex in March, to better understand their day-to-day experience so far. The majority of colleagues in the U.S. have chosen hybrid schedules and are coming into the office about two days a week on average, and more than 40 percent have opted to be fully virtual. Additional highlights from colleagues that responded to the survey include:

  • 97% of colleagues say they can effectively deliver their work
  • 96% of colleagues feel they can effectively collaborate with others using the tools and technology available while working from home

  • 92% of colleagues say they have the flexibility to best manage their work

Compared to previous colleague surveys, results showed positive increases in areas including work flexibility, sentiment about work-life balance, and appreciation for the office environment. Nearly 15,000 colleagues in the U.S. and U.K. completed the survey and submitted more than 14,000 comments.
