Amex Flex: How One Colleague Prioritizes Being Present at Both Work and Home

August 10, 2022

For American Express colleague, and new parent, Courtney Dyce, being present in all she does is an important value. It’s what led her to co-lead the company’s New York Chapter of the colleague network, Families at Amex, which supports parents and caregivers.

“With Amex Flex, the ability to be present in your child’s life is amazing. I always wanted to give that to my children, but I also wanted to have something for myself, as well. I want to work and I want to impact people, so it’s a balancing act and a huge weight and responsibility,” said Dyce, a Senior Manager of Strategy & Business Planning, National Client Group, within Global Merchant & Network Services.

Amex Flex, American Express’ new working model, provides colleagues more flexibility to manage their professional and personal lives with options to work at home, in the office, or take a hybrid approach that combines both. Dyce says that her hybrid schedule, 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home, allows her to raise her daughter, Laney, while pursuing her career aspirations.

“Being a working parent is not always easy but I’ve come to live by three “Bs” – breathe, balance and believe. It’s important to just take a moment and breathe each day, to become a true juggler and create an effective way to balance it all, and to believe that working parents can have it all; it just takes work and it takes support,” said Dyce.

“Everyday, I feel empowered by the support that I receive from the people I work with, who understand my role as a parent and all of the responsibilities that come along with that title. It was important that I bring this backing to other working parents. Being involved in the Families at Amex organization allows me to create a community and a space for others,” she continued.

Dyce shares her full story in a recent video featured here.
