March 3, 2022

Spaeth says she is inspired by the work of women in the music industry, from aspiring songwriters and entrepreneurs to the artists that sell out huge arenas.

American Express celebrated the 2022 Billboard Women in Music Awards at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 2nd, recognizing some of the most influential women in music. As a continued partner of Billboard for almost a decade, American Express provided Card Members with exclusive early access to purchase tickets to the award ceremony, which is open to the public for the first time this year.

American Express SVP of Global Brand Media and Experiences, Bess Spaeth, has been recognized as a 2022 Billboard Women in Music Executive, sharing that “Billboard’s Women in Music represents so much more than an evening of electrifying performances and moving speeches. It’s a celebration of powerful and inspiring women across the globe. From aspiring songwriters and first-time entrepreneurs to those that sell out concert arenas and lead the world’s most successful organizations, we honor the female experience in its many diverse forms.”

Spaeth dives in on the importance of music as a focus area for American Express:

Why did we bring this Billboard Women in Music Awards experience to Amex Card Members?

Our goal is to deliver our Card Members one-of-a-kind experiences that ignite their passions. We have a long history of offering exclusive early access to presales and dedicated tickets to some of the world’s most coveted events in music, sports, theater and more. This year’s Billboard Women in Music event was open to the public for the first time ever, so we were able to extend our Card Members early access to purchase tickets to experience this incredibly special and fun moment.

You lead Amex’s UNSTAGED music series, working with powerful female artists. What kind of ambition do you see when working with such incredible women?

We’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most amazing female artists throughout our UNSTAGED music performance series. Each woman is authentically and unapologetically themselves. And their passion for their music and dedication to bringing their fans moving and innovative experiences inspires me to do the same for our Card Members, colleagues and community.

Throughout your career, how have you stay inspired and empowered?

Working alongside a remarkable group of women at American Express keeps me inspired and energized every day. We have a number of amazing supportive colleague networks and events like our Annual Global Women’s Conference, which brings together over 150 women from around the globe for an empowering two-day event. Through these groups and experiences, I’m reminded that when women join forces to support each other in an effort to build an inclusive and equitable world, the sky's the limit.

What women have inspired you throughout your career and why?

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with many motivating and supportive women throughout my career. From leaders who became friends, mentors who give their advice and support so generously, to superstars we’ve worked with and of course, American Express’ first female CMO, Elizabeth Rutledge. These are just a few of the remarkable women who have had a positive impact on me and continue to pave the way for the next generation.
