American Express Celebrates Our Asian Pacific American Colleagues and the Many Cultures They Represent

May 2, 2022

This year’s theme, ‘Make Culture Shine’ looks to recognize the power of diversity and reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting all Asian communities around the globe.

In recognition of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, American Express is celebrating with the theme ‘Make Culture Shine: Proudly Backing All Asian Communities’ which honors the diverse tapestry of Asian culture, explores the contributions and influence of the Asian community, and amplifies the voices of our Asian colleagues.

American Express first established its Asian Network at Amex (ANA) in 1995 with the mission to develop and leverage Asian talent through initiatives around the areas of leadership, networking, seminars and cultural awareness for all colleagues. The global Network today consists of six chapters across three countries, and drives meaningful programming to engage and unite colleagues.

“To let my culture shine, I believe it is important for us all to understand the evolving landscape of Asian in general,” said Dr. Man Chon (Kevin) U, a colleague since 2019. “Being more engaged in my community, interacting with more people, listening, and sharing more stories gives me even more appreciation for the culture and the different life experiences we all have gone through,” added Kevin Tran, a colleague since 2011.

“The more we can really embrace ourselves – and the more collective support for Asian colleagues and neighbors – can really make us much stronger, and that will let us be more authentic. But it does take a whole group of us to own it and to be proud of it and to be vocal about it so that others, whether Asian or not, can rally in with their support,” said Kyoko King, a colleague since 2006.
