The second American Express Women’s Conference kicks off today with the
company’s 200 most senior female executives from across the globe coming
together to gain practical guidance for career progression, leverage new
technologies and share strategies to grow the business. The conference is being
held at The Westin Jersey City Newport in Jersey City on October 16 and 17. It
will feature a variety of workshops and panel discussions, as well as several
networking events and an awards dinner that recognizes female leaders within the
This invitation-only, two-day event starts with a Q&A session with Tina Brown (editor-in-chief of Newsweek & The Daily Beast and founder of the annual Women in the World summit) followed by a panel discussion featuring Carolyn Everson (vice president, Global Marketing Solutions at Facebook), Maria Contreras-Sweet (founder and executive chairwoman of ProAmerica Bank) and Marissa Campise (vice president at Venrock). The conference is part of American Express’ “Women in the Pipeline and at the Top,” a diversity and inclusion initiative devoted to developing and advancing women to the top levels of American Express by strengthening their networks, fostering sponsor relationships and creating a gender inclusive culture across the organization.
Building on the success of the first conference in 2010, American Express is giving its social communities (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter) the opportunity to hear from speakers directly through videos, pictures and live-posting throughout and following the conference. American Express leadership and an impressive list of guest speakers will facilitate conversations around topics crucial to women’s career development including:
- Sponsorship 2.0 will feature a discussion led by Sylvia Ann Hewlett (president of the Center for Talent Innovation) to better understand how female and multicultural employees can develop a road map and win sponsorship.
- Gender Intelligence will feature inclusive leadership, cultural and gender expertise from Barbara Annis, Ph.D., and will highlight American Express’ journey to creating a gender-intelligent workplace. In this session, men and women executives will discuss how a gender-balanced culture is a strong value in both the workplace and the marketplace.
- Overwhelmed, Overcommitted, Over It will feature a discussion led by motivational speaker Juliet Funt, offering tools to support work/life integration, creativity, focus, innovation and performance.
- Digital Experience will explore the future of digital, showcase the company’s digital footprint and illustrate how women can harness the power of social media to assert their own digital identity.
