In response to the tragedy at the Sandy Hook School in Newtown, CT., American Express today announced that it will refund the merchant discount rate for charitable contributions that Cardmembers make directly to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund at the United Way of Western Connecticut.  The fund was established to provide support services to the families and community that have been affected.    

The merchant discount rate will be refunded on all such charitable contributions that are made through Friday, February 15, 2013.

Cardmembers can also use their Membership Rewards® points for charitable contributions to this organization.
