American Express Launches The Search for the Next Big Idea with My Movie Pitch in 2011NEW YORK, April 25, 2011 --
On Saturday, April 23, American Express debuted Mr.
Stache, the winner of its My Movie Pitch contest and announced the launch of
the second year of My Movie Pitch at the Tribeca Film Festival. John Nash, a
21-year old student from Rockland County, New York, was joined at the premiere
of the short film based on his 60-second movie idea by director Jac Schaeffer
who adapted Nash's pitch into a screenplay, cast members Amy Smart and Rich
Sommer, and American Express® Cardmembers. American Express also announced the
launch of the second year of My Movie Pitch, a contest that seeks to bring one
inspirational storyteller's unique movie idea to life as an independent short
film to debut at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival.
John Nash's winning pitch -- which told an unexpected story of a man and his mustache -- was selected from more than 2,000 entries by a panel of Tribeca Film directors. The My Movie Pitch competition is part of a larger American Express partnership with Tribeca Enterprises established in 2002, which proudly supports and celebrates the power of independent film making. Through this partnership, American Express has leveraged emerging talent in the film industry and has helped distribute films, such as TiMER from Mr. Stache director Jac Schaeffer.
"Winning the My Movie Pitch contest was one of the best things that has ever happened to me," said Nash. "It's difficult to express how great the experience was as a whole, but I am so thankful for the film cast and crew and everyone at American Express and the Tribeca Film Festival who has helped bring Mr. Stache to life."
In 2011, My Movie Pitch will introduce new and unique elements, including an "inspiration generator" which aims to assist contestants in the ideation process, as well as the ":60 Film School," which features Tribeca Film directors who provide visitors with a crash course in storytelling. The Film School will also share the Tribeca Film directors personal tools and tips on the art of pitching via one-minute long instructional videos, all which will be available at www.amexfilm.com.
New prizes for this year's contestants includes a Filmmaker or Film-lover prize package for the top 10 finalists who will get to choose from an HD camera and home editing suite or the ultimate home theater setup. Additionally, the top 100 pitches will each receive a $50 American Express Gift Card.
An esteemed panel of Tribeca Film Directors including Philip Gelatt (The Bleeding House), Massy Tadjedin (Last Night), and David M. Rosenthal (Janie Jones) will select the Grand Prize Winner, who, like Nash, will have his or her pitch made into a short film by a Tribeca Film Director. The winner will receive a trip for two to New York City and VIP access to see the short film debut at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival.
"My Movie Pitch was such a great experience for American Express, our Cardmembers and the film industry this past year, that we are proud to bring it back for a second year," said Jessica Igoe, Vice President of Global Sponsorship Marketing, American Express. "Our community is really passionate about independent film and this is really a unique way to connect them closer to art of storytelling through film."
