American Express has been named to the Black Enterprise 40 Best Companies for Diversity list for the fifth time. The survey measured companies against key categories including the percentage of African Americans and members of other ethnic minority groups represented in a company's total workforce, senior management and board of directors; as well as supplier diversity for total procurement dollars spent with companies owned by African Americans and members of other ethnic minority groups.
"Having a diverse workforce is a business imperative for American Express," said Kerrie Peraino, chief diversity officer, American Express. "To win in the marketplace, we must attract the most talented people and help them thrive. Employees want to affiliate with organizations that recognize the benefits of diversity. At American Express, we try to create an emotional engagement with employees by understanding and celebrating their unique needs."
The winners will be highlighted in the July issue of Black Enterprise, hitting newsstands on June 29, and online at www.blackenterprise.com.
