American Express Appoints Toby Eduardo Redshaw as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer
NEW YORK,  November 4, 2010 --

American Express Company today announced the appointment of Toby Eduardo Redshaw, 48, to the position of executive vice president and chief information officer, effective January 2011. He will report to Stephen Squeri, Group President, American Express Global Services, which includes the company's Technologies, World Service, Global Business Services and Global Credit Administration organizations. Mr. Squeri had served as CIO since May, 2005, in addition to heading Global Services since the group was formed in October 2009.

As head of American Express' global Technologies organization, Mr. Redshaw will serve on the company's Business Operating Committee, and will be responsible for further strengthening American Express' position in the strategic use of technology.

He joins American Express from Aviva in London, where he had served as Global Chief Information officer since 2008. In this role, he unified and transformed Aviva's global approach to technology. Previously, Mr. Redshaw served as Corporate Vice President for Innovation, Data, Enabling Platforms and Architecture Services (I.D.E.A.S.) with Motorola, Inc., and before that was General Manager of a Silicon Valley start-up that provided software-as-a-service and supply-chain solutions. During a 17-year career at FedEx, he progressed through a series of customer service, business and information technology roles in business units globally.

"Toby is an experienced leader who has a strong reputation as a collaborative business partner who delivered results in markets around the world," said Steve Squeri, Group President, Global Services. "He will be a terrific addition to our organization as we focus on creating a competitive advantage for the company through superior service, capabilities and operational excellence."

Mr. Redshaw holds a double-major bachelor's degree in economics and philosophy from the University of Memphis. He also attended Motorola's Chairman Institute at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
