Welcome to CSR Now!
Welcome to CSR Now!, a weekly blog designed to get at what’s happening in corporate social responsibility today -- from the point of view of a corporate practitioner.
I’m Tim McClimon, vice president for corporate social responsibility at American Express and president of the American Express Foundation. In my job, I have responsibility for the firm’s corporate citizenship programs including philanthropy, employee engagement activities and environmental programs. I’ve been with American Express for five years.
Prior to American Express, I spent portions of my career as an attorney specializing in not-for-profit law, a grants specialist with the National Endowment for the Arts, the executive director of the AT&T Foundation, and the executive director of Second Stage Theatre, a nonprofit theater in New York City.
I’ve served on numerous boards of directors and committees – including for organizations like the Council on Foundations, Independent Sector, Americans for the Arts, Philanthropy New York and the Conference Board-- and I’ve written for a number of publications.
I’m also an adjunct professor at New York University where I teach graduate level courses in nonprofit management and arts administration.
Once a week, I’ll try to reflect on current trends in corporate social responsibility and philanthropy by using examples of what we’re doing here at American Express, and what my colleagues are engaged in at other firms.
I’ll also try to track the current literature and what’s happening on-line, and I may have guest bloggers participate from time to time.
So, send me your comments and questions, and I’ll respond below or in a future posting.
